That day, I heard Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok speak about one of his life philosophies: a “life of zero.”
In all things, he said, one must act by closely following the Holy Trinity. Otherwise, in the end, all effort comes to nothing. Only what is done in step with the Three can remain into eternity.
I thank the Holy Spirit—for at that moment, images arose in my mind. I recorded them through the stacking of numbers, and they became this poem, The Life of Ling.
In Chinese, 昤 and 零 are both pronounced “Ling.” Yet their meanings are different: 零 means zero, nothing, while 昤 means daylight—light that comes from the sun.

The Life of Ling
Before meeting the Holy One,
by one’s own strength alone,
striving, stacking,
stone on stone—
0
00
000
0000
00000
000000
0000000
Life, in the end,
returns to zero.
After meeting the Holy Trinity,
following closely,
accumulating, beginning with three—
30
300
3000
30000
300000
3000000
Becoming the life of Ling—
a life of happiness,
a life that shines.
